Metro Regional Quality Council Project Manager
How did you first get involved with the Quality Council and The Arc?
I was first involved with the Arc and Metro Regional Quality Council as a Quality of Life Reviewer during my final year of graduate school. During this time, I was studying public health and found myself craving a fulfilling volunteer position that would also help me develop skills that I could take into my career. The Quality of Life Reviewer position allowed me to get valuable experience interacting with a broad range of people and helped me gain confidence in my interview and writing skills. I decided to apply for the Metro Regional Quality Council Project Manager position right after graduation because I felt the position was a great marriage of my educational background in systems change and research methods and my previous experience in direct care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
What do you enjoy the most about the work you do?
I really enjoy meeting all of the people we interview. Interacting and learning from such a diverse group has been compelling and has challenged me in ways that has helped me to grow. The idea that the work I do will inform systems change is exciting and motivates me to be the best I can be every day.
What would you like to say to people who may be reading this for the first time, and to those who are more familiar with The Arc, the State/Regional Quality Council, and other similar organizations?
The Arc is an amazing organization and I’m very proud to work here. The staff here are always working to better serve people and are passionate about helping others. The Regional Quality Council is a group that is constantly looking to better understand people’s experiences. We want people with disabilities to identify and direct the changes that will impact their lives. I encourage you to get involved in the work we do!
